This message is intended to help clarify some information with the transition to CVS/Caremark regarding a 90-day prescription supply.
What’s changing?
Starting on Jan. 1, 2026, CVS/Caremark will be the new Pharmacy Benefit Manager for those who previously had OptumRx. For members on Medicare, SilverScript will be managing your prescription benefits.
What caused the confusion?
Members have reported that CVS shared they would not be offering a 90-day supply from a retail pharmacy, only a 30-day prescriptions. This was incorrect.
The correct information shared from CalPERS:
CVS/Caremark will continue offering 90-day prescriptions at retail pharmacies.
Mail order prescriptions for 90-day supply will be covered at the cost of a 60-day copay.
This applies to members on Basic as well as Medicare.
