California State Retirees supports legislation that strengthens and improves state retiree pensions and health benefits. CSR opposes any bill that threatens the rights and benefits of state retirees. Advocacy is our cause—and our legacy.
In 1930, Proposition 5 asked California voters to approve the state's first pension system for state employees. Determined state workers formed a committee to campaign for the initiative. The measure passed and was signed into law. Two years later, the State Employees’ Retirement System – now known as CalPERS – was born.
But the victorious state workers stayed active. To protect their rights and improve their new benefits, the campaign committee members formed the California State Employees Association (CSEA) in 1931.
Today, as one of four affiliates of CSEA, CSR maintains this heritage. CSR is the largest and most experienced retiree organization in California. Unlike other organizations, we are dedicated solely to state retirees. We remain a trusted source of representation, communication, and advocacy for state retirees.
