A Message from CalPERS:
On December 3, 2025, the Social Security Administration (SSA) mailed letters to members who are subject to Medicare Part D Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) advising them that their prescription drug coverage IRMAA amount would no longer be deducted from their SSA monthly warrant.
The letters were generated due to the timing of members’ disenrollment from OptumRx in late October and subsequent enrollment with SilverScript in late November. Medicare Part D disenrollments and enrollments must be submitted and approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), which approved the SilverScript enrollments in early December.
Once SSA receives the SilverScript enrollment information from CMS, the Medicare Part D IRMAA deduction should automatically resume.
However, there could be a delay resulting in retroactive premiums owed for January.
If members have received this letter, they can contact SSA in either of the following ways:
- Log in to their Social Security account to verify that IRMAA deductions have resumed for February and that the retroactive premiums for January have been paid.
- Contact SSA at 1-800-772-1213 to confirm these deductions have resumed for February and if necessary, obtain information on how to submit their January premiums.
