CalPERS Has a New Pharmacy Benefit Manager—What It Means For You

Effective Jan. 1, 2026, CVS Caremark (CVS) will replace OptumRx as the new pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) for select CalPERS health plans.

CVS will manage retail, mail-order, and specialty pharmacy services for affected Basic plans. SilverScript – an affiliate of CVS – will serve the same functions for participating CalPERS Medicare plans.

To learn more about this transition and how it affects you, CalPERS invites you to a live webinar on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.

The CalPERS Pharmacy Benefits Manager Webinar is free to attend and will be livestreamed on YouTube. CalPERS and CVS Caremark will field your questions and provide support to help you manage your medications.
