A message from CalPERS Stakeholder Relations
We are writing to share an important upcoming change from UnitedHealthcare (UHC) that may affect your members. Effective January 1, 2027, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) will transition its Medicare plan into two plans: Group Medicare Advantage (PPO) for medical coverage and MedicareRx for Groups (Prescription Drug Plan PDP) for prescription drugs coverage.
UHC will mail notification letters to affected members by Friday, October 30, 2026. Approximately 46,632 members will receive this letter. An example of the letter is attached for reference.
To help answer member questions, please note the following key points:
- Members will be automatically enrolled in both plans
- This transition will not affect coverage, copays, or formularies
- Members will receive additional communication and materials at a later time including, welcome letters and ID cards (one for medical coverage and one for pharmacy coverage.)
