CalPERS will host a Candidate Forum on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m., for candidates in the upcoming CalPERS Board of Administration election.
Moderated by the League of Women Voters, the Candidate Forum will occur at CalPERS headquarters in Sacramento. All CalPERS members are invited to attend the event, which will also be streamed online.
The election includes two Member-at-Large seats—positions that help shape key decisions affecting retiree pension, health premiums, and investment policy.
CalPERS members can submit questions for the candidates by email in advance to forums@lwvsacramento.org. Questions will also be taken live during the forum, but those received in advance will have priority. All questions will be reviewed to avoid redundancy and represent a broad range of topics.
The forum lineup includes:
• Position A: Dominick Bei, Steve Mermell, and incumbent David Miller
• Position B: Sam Hasan Akkad, Troy Johnson, and incumbent Jose Luis Pacheco
In June, California State Retirees endorsed Dominick Bei for Position A and Jose Luis Pacheco for Position B. CSR believes they best represent our mission to protect retired state employees' pension and health benefits.
Ballots for the election will be mailed Aug. 29 and votes must be received by Sept. 29. All eligible CalPERS members will be able to vote using one of three convenient voting methods: by mail, by phone, or online.
Members who do not receive ballots by Sept. 5 should call (877) 610-8637 to ask for a replacement ballot.
To vote, you must be a CalPERS member — active as of July 1, 2025, or retired with an effective retirement date on or before that same date. Survivors and beneficiaries are not eligible to vote.
