California State Retirees (CSR) is an advocacy group whose sole mission is protecting the pension and health benefits of all retired state employees. With over 44,000 members, CSR is the largest and most experienced retiree organization in California.
The mission of California State Retirees is to protect the pension and health benefits of all retired state employees.
Defined benefit pensions offer stability to millions of Californians. The promise of these benefits helps state agencies maintain a reliable workforce. While state workers provide vital public services, retirees provide an economic foundation for communities across our state.
State retiree pension and health benefits are subjects of frequent attacks. CSR strongly opposes legislation that threatens to undermine the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) and its benefits. Our members’ voices matter—at the Legislature, the Governor’s office, and with the CalPERS Board of Administration. Protecting the pension and health benefits of retired state employees is our top priority.
The Board of Directors is the governing body of California State Retirees. Each member of the Board of Directors represents all CSR members. Board members work together to promote CSR’s long-term success and sustainability.
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) is the nation’s largest public pension fund. The CalPERS Board of Administration and its Committees set policies that affect CSR members. CSR leaders regularly attend CalPERS meetings, where they represent CSR members and speak on their behalf.
Our organization includes 26 chapters. Each is based on geography, allowing members to access the benefits of CSR at the local level. Chapters help retirees stay connected and informed. Chapter meetings include a range of social activities and guest speakers.
CSR has five diverse committees that help our organization meet goals and expectations set by the Board of Directors.
Members from each of CSR’s seven districts elect one member to represent them on our Board of Directors.
We monitor legislative activity affecting our members. We strongly oppose legislation that threatens to undermine the retiree pensions. We maintain a current list of bills and measures that we either sponsor, support, oppose, or watch closely.
California State Retirees supports legislation that strengthens and improves state retiree pension and health benefits. Advocacy is our cause—and our legacy.
