Dear Valued stakeholders,

CalPERS Board President Henry Jones has resigned his position on the Board due to health concerns, effective Friday, January 21st. This includes his role as Board President and also as the representative elected by CalPERS retired members. The seat will remain vacant until filled.

This morning, the CalPERS Board elected Theresa Taylor as President and Rob Feckner as Vice President. Both will serve one-year terms.

A letter from Henry Jones to CSR President Stephanie Hueg

Dear Stephanie,

Tonight, I informed the CalPERS CEO and Board members, and Executive Staff of CalPERS that I am resigning from the Board of Administration due to health issues. My full letter to the Board is attached.

In September of 2021, I was diagnosed with and underwent prostate cancer surgery. While the surgery was largely successful, I am not entirely cancer-free. I have decided, after much consideration and in consultation with my doctor over the past weeks, to limit the statewide and international activities in which I am involved so that I may focus on a full and complete recovery.

A lot of important work has been done together over the past 14 years and there have been tremendous gains for millions of CalPERS members and retirees. I am so deeply grateful to and appreciative of the hundreds of thousands of retirees that I have served the last 14 years and the thousands I have met personally across the state. To them I say, thank you for your service across all areas of government in California and for allowing me the privilege of representing you on the CalPERS Board of Administration.

Again, it has been my honor to have worked with CSR even when we haven’t seen eye to eye and I wish you all the best in the future.

Henry
