SACRAMENTO, Calif. – CalPERS today named Anthony Suine as the Deputy Executive Officer (DEO) for the Customer Services and Support (CSS) branch.

As DEO, Suine will be the senior executive overseeing the administration of retirement benefits and services to 2 million active and retired California state, public school, and local government employees, and their beneficiaries.

He'll report to CalPERS CEO Marcie Frost and direct the management of six divisions: Employer Account Management, Member Account Management, Disability and Survivor Benefits, Retirement Benefits Services, Customer Experience, and Customer Education and Outreach, which oversees eight CalPERS regional offices throughout California.

"Anthony is a natural fit for this position," Frost said. “He has a deep understanding of the complexities of the CalPERS benefits program and a strong history of providing outstanding customer service to our members, whether they’re retired or just starting their careers in public service. He’s been a valued member of the CalPERS team for a long time, and I look forward to working with him in his new role.”

Suine has more than 30 years of experience at CalPERS and currently serves as the chief of the Retirement Benefit Services Division, where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of providing benefits to CalPERS members. During his time at CalPERS, he has held management positions throughout the organization, including acting as the business project manager for the myCalPERS project.

He replaces Donna Lum, who retired at the end of 2019.

Suine holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from California State University, Sacramento.
